This has been on the lips of many Jamaicans as of lately…“Gays giving us deadline?”. Well yes, they have given Jamaica a deadline. There demands:

  • They want the Government of Jamaica to produce public service announcements denouncing homophobic/transphobic violence. They are also calling for a national homophobia/transphobia education cam-paign, and the repeal of the buggery laws and other legislation that further stigmatise, discriminate and criminalise consensual same-sex acts.
  • The groups further state that they also want to see a public education campaign aimed at sensitising members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to deal with the victims of violence around lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans-identified people and their families across Jamaica. They are also calling for government policy to protect human rights and the inclusion of sexual orientation as a ground for non-discrimination in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Additionally, they want to see a focus at the Canada-CARICOM 2008 Summit to include human rights for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and trans-identified people.

My two cents on the whole thing; to be frank ARE THEY STUPID?. I support no type of physical abuse on no human being for any reason at all, i’m basically indifferent about the whole thing, but not all Jamaicans think like me.

Now regarding the first demand… they want the Jamaican Government to do what? That i can guarantee you will NEVER happen, but if for some strange reason it does, well let’s say our crime rate now will seem like nothing compared to how it change…for the worse.

I will not even bother elaborating on the second point. Apparently they don’t know what Jamaican people are like, majority of them who have a problem with Gays will never have tolerance for them.

With all due respect our country has bigger problems, we have no time for such trivial issues, and yes they are trivial issues.

P.S I wonder why the Prime Minister has not said anything about it, who knows….
