Bio
I'm Gordon Swaby. I build software and companies from Jamaica, and I write here to think in public.
I started building things on the web in my teens. No, scratch that - I started breaking things on the web in my teens, then learning just enough to fix them. In 2012 I launched EduFocal, an education technology company focused on digital learning experiences for students, schools, companies, and governments across the Caribbean.
In 2022 EduFocal listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Junior Market (ticker: LEARN). In June 2025, EduFocal was named on TIME and Statista's World's Top EdTech Companies list.
Over the years I've been fortunate to have my work acknowledged by organizations like the World Bank, the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica, the University of Technology, and the Inter-American Development Bank. I've picked up a few awards too, including the Governor General's Youth Award and the Commonwealth Youth Award.
I've served on boards and working groups over the years, including the Jamaica Library Service, the NCB Foundation, e-Learning Jamaica, Nationwide News Network, the National ICT Council, and the Inter-American Development Bank's Civil Society Working Group (CONSOC). In 2016 the BBC featured EduFocal as a "Digital Disruptor" and did a short documentary that aired across BBC radio, BBC World News, and BBC online.
At home: I'm married to Kemesha. We have two kids, Alexander and Ava. I like drones, productivity, skeet, books, and cooking.
I started blogging around 15. I lost a lot of my older posts over the years, but thankfully the Wayback Machine kept a record. I'm slowly porting the old writing over here, dates and all.
